What Can I Ship?

Accordingly to publically available information, cargo defined as “Household goods and personal effects” are allowed duty free importation, however the following provisions must be met:

  • Goods must have been owned and used by the shipper for at least twelve (12) months prior to shipment importation.

Australian Customs Service (ACS) implements a cargo reporting and clearance system. For shipments to clear through the system, both forwarders and importers must electronically report all imports cargo to the ACS system twenty four (24) hours prior to the Vessel or aircraft arrival at any seaport or airport on the Australian continent . The system requires:

  • Name and residential address of the owner/receiver of the cargo.

Special Considerations For Australia

Items being shipping to Australia must be fumigated properly and any wood used must be the correct type of heat treated wood.  If these and other precautions are not taken, there will be additional charges and delay (including customs charges to fumigate the container, which we have been told are more than double what Bluesea charges).

Maximizing Value

To get max value out of your shipment, we recommend the following tips:

  • You should definitely focus on minimizing of spaces in your shipment and squeeze everything as much as you can! Our team can provide you with that by repacking of your shipment.
  • Book early with a trusted shipping line. With very few exceptions, the longer you wait to book, the more expensive it will be.
  • Try to book as earliest as you can and use trusted shipper on the market. Read reviews and do not wait! In most of the cases, more you wait to book, the more you pay!
  • You can reduce preparation and pickup charges if you manage it by yourself and you bring you cargo to the closest port! You should also consider to use professional packing and crating in order to secure your shipment.
  • If your cargo is small enough, consolidate your shipment with other shippers or consolidators to reduce costs and maximize value.
  • You can ask your shippers for discount if you ship in bulk or if you ship very often! In this cases shippers are able to get you a discount!
  • Last but very important advice is to not leave your cargo wait in your destination. The shipping line can charge you fees! Each cargo booking come with specific time and allows you to track you shipment.
